We’re here to ensure you get the most out of your Rowenta experience.

FAQ STEAM STATIONS

How to better use my product?

What type of ironing board should I use?

It should be steady and robust so that you can place the ironing appliance on it.

The board should be perforated to allow the steam to pass through the fibres of the fabric to soften it and make ironing easier. The ironing board cover should also be suitable to allow the flow of steam through.

Can I use my iron for vertical steaming?

Yes, you can use any Rowenta steam station for vertical steaming. To do this, first set the temperature button to the maximum position. Leave the item on a hanger and gently pull the fabric with one hand. Press the steam control button intermittently and move the iron from top to bottom. As the steam produced is very hot, it softens the fibers and removes creases.

Note: Never use the vertical steam function on an item being worn by anyone.

How can I avoid scratching the soleplate of my iron?

To avoid damaging the soleplate, follow this advice:

  • Always place your iron on its heel rest or its base (depending on model).
  • Avoid ironing over abrasive items (buttons, zip fastenings, etc.).
  • Never clean your iron's soleplate with abrasive or metallic pads.

What water should I use ironing?

This appliance has been designed to be used with untreated tap water. If your water is very hard, (hardness above 30°F, or 17°dH or 21°e) use a mixture of 50% tap water and 50% distilled water. In some seaside regions, salt content might be high. In that case, use only water bottle, with low mineral level.

They are different type of softened water, and most of them can be used in your appliance. However, some of them, especially the one with chemical components, like salt, might occur white or brown runs. If you face this type of issue, we recommend you to use non-treated tap water or bottled water.

You should not use with additives (starch, perfume, etc.), rainwater, boiled, filtered, bottled water. Do not use pure distilled nor pure demineralized water. Such water might affect steam attributes and at high temperature generate steam chamber sediment, liable to stain your linen and cause early appliance aging.

What is the ECO Mode for and how to use it?

Your steam station has an ECO mode function which uses less power whilst still guaranteeing a sufficient steam output for you to iron your garments properly (less electricity is used and therefore slightly less steam is generated).

In order to use this function, once the thermostat of your iron has been correctly set (see table above), press on the ECO button located on the control panel. The ECO mode can be used on all types of fabrics, nevertheless for very thick or very creased fabrics we recommend that you deactivate ECO mode (by pressing the MAX button) to guarantee the best results.

Maintenance and cleaning

How do I maintain my steam station properly?

Before any maintenance, make sure that the appliance is unplugged and that the soleplate, boiler and iron rest have cooled down (at least 2 hours after ironing).
Do not use any maintenance or descaling product to clean the soleplate or the base unit. Never hold the iron or its base unit under a running tap.

Cleaning the base unit:

  • Wipe the plastic parts from time to time using a slightly damp soft cloth.
Maintaining the boiler (once a month):
  • Please note: To prolong your boiler's efficiency and avoid scale deposits, you must rinse the boiler every 10 uses (around once a month).
  • Check that the generator is cool and has been unplugged for more than 2 hours.
  • Slowly loosen the boiler cap. If your generator boiler has an anti-calc rod, take this out and rinse it under the tap before placing it back in the boiler.
  • Use a jug to fill the boiler with tap water until it is 3/4 full.
  • Shake the base unit gently for a few seconds then empty it completely over the sink.
  • For best results, we recommend that you perform this operation once again.
If you live in a hard water area, do this more often. Most of all, do not use any descaling products to clean the boiler as they could damage it.

How do I descale my steam station?

Note: Do not use any descaling substances (vinegar, industrial descaling products, etc.) to descale your steam station: they could damage it.

To extend the life of your steam station and avoid scale on your ironing, your steam station is equipped with a built-in scale collector or an anti-calc flush system depending on your model. A light will start flashing when the scale needs to be removed. Refer to user manual for detailed descaling process.

How do I clean the soleplate?

Unplug the iron and let it cool down for 1 hour. Once the soleplate has cooled down, you can wipe it with a damp cloth or sponge. Do not use detergent or sharp, abrasive cleaning accessories to clean the soleplate.

Technical support

Should I be concerned about any noises from my generator?

No. When starting or using the steam station you may hear a pumping or vibrating noise along with a clicking sound. This is completely normal and is just the pump injecting water into the boiler or the steam valve opening.

Some waterdrops drip out onto the floor during ironing?

It is normal. Your iron generates a lot of steam; this steam is condensing on the board. Some waterdrops could appeared underneath the ironing board and fall on the flooring.

Why does my generator seem to be leaking?

This can be due to:

  • Trying to use steam before the iron is hot enough. Depending on the model of generator, when ironing on a low temperature, decrease the steam output by adjusting the steam output dial on the control panel. Wait for the iron temperature control light to go out before ironing.
  • The water may also have condensed in the pipes because you are using steam for the first time or you have not used it for some time. In which case hold the iron away from the ironing board and press the steam control button until it produces steam.
  • Over-use of the turbo steam function can cool down the iron soleplate. In this case stop using the turbo steam function and allow the iron temperature control light to come on and go off again before using this function again.
  • The boiler may be too full. Do not fill it right to the top.

A short time after use, I can hear a metallic sound.

The internal parts may make metallic noises with the change in temperature. There is nothing wrong with it.

Is it normal to hear a rattling noise from time to time?

Yes, this is normal. This is due to the flow of cold water into the boiler that contains hot water.

General

What is the difference between a steam iron and a steam station?

Both a steam iron and a steam station have the same primary function: ironing. With a boiler and a bigger water tank, a steam station is an enhanced version of an iron providing greater steam power and longer ironing session. Consider it as a superior option for extensive ironing tasks and professional ironing results.

Is lime scale a problem for steam stations?

The formation of lime scale is avoided because the water is not in direct contact with the heating element, which is located outside the tank. However, the tank should be rinsed after 10 uses to avoid lime scale deposits.

Is it dangerous to have the water and electricity cables together?

No. The two cables are separately insulated; they are protected and rigorously checked. However, if you notice that the cable is damaged, have it repaired by an approved repair centre.

Where can I dispose of my appliance at the end of its life span?

Your appliance contains valuable materials which can be recovered or recycled. Leave it at a local civic waste collection point.

I’ve just opened my new appliance and I think there is a part missing. What should I do?

If you believe that one part is missing, please call Consumer Services Center and we will help you find a suitable solution.

FAQ STEAM IRONS

How to better use my product?

What type of ironing board should I use?

It should be steady and robust so that you can place the ironing appliance on it.

The board should be perforated to allow the steam to pass through the fibres of the fabric to soften it and make ironing easier. The ironing board cover should also be suitable to allow the flow of steam through.

How do I prevent water drips on my fabrics?

  • Don't use the Boost steam button intensively. Wait few seconds between each use.
  • Use steam only when the iron is hot (the light must be off).

Can I use my iron for vertical steaming?

Yes, you can use any Rowenta iron for vertical steaming. To do this, first set the iron temperature button to the maximum position. Leave the item on a hanger and gently pull the fabric with one hand. Press the steam control button intermittently and move the iron from top to bottom. As the steam produced is very hot, it softens the fibers and removes creases.

Note: Never use the vertical steam function on an item being worn by anyone.

Can I fill the iron with water when it is plugged in?

No, you must always unplug the iron before filling it.

How can I avoid scratching the soleplate of my iron?

To avoid damaging the soleplate, follow this advice:

  • Always place your iron on its heel rest.
  • Avoid ironing over abrasive items (buttons, zip fastenings, etc.).
  • Never clean your iron's soleplate with abrasive or metallic pads.

How to store my iron?

Turn off all settings, unplug the iron and let it cool down for approximately 1 hour. Empty the water tank over a sink. Wrap the cord around the iron’s heel and always store it in vertical position.

Maintenance and cleaning

How do I prevent the steam hole of my iron from clogging up?

Firstly, fill the iron tank to MAX with water.

Set the thermostat control to Max and the steam control on DRY and switch on.

Place the iron on its heel and leave to heat up for around 5 minutes.

Unplug the iron then hold your iron horizontally above the sink.

Remove the anti-scale valve (or set the control to self-clean/autoclean depending on the model). Steam, water and scale deposits will leave the steam chamber through the steam holes and the iron will be clean.

At the end of the operation, push the anti-calc valve back into position. When your iron is cold, you will also be able to use your vacuum to gently suction limescale and dirt that may have clogged the holes in the soleplate.

How do I descale my steam iron?

Unplug the iron and let it cool down for 1 hour. Empty the water tank over a sink and remove the anti calc valve. Soak it in a cup of plain lemon juice or white vinegar for 4 hours (WARNING: never touch the end of the valve). Rinse the anti calc valve under running water and replace it within the iron (the iron will not function it).

Note: we recommend to clean the calc collector every 2 months.

I want to remove the water from the tank but there is still a little left?

It is not designed for the water to be removed completely. It is okay to use or store the iron even with a small amount of water remaining. When storing, please remove as much water as possible and store in an upright position.

Why is my iron leaking from the soleplate when I fill it?

Always set your iron to the 'No Steam' function before you start to fill.

Why isn’t the spray function on my iron working?

There is not enough water in the tank. Fill it up with the quantity indicated in the instructions for use and push spray button several times to fill the system complete.

The indicator light keeps going on and off.

All irons contain a thermostat light. It is normal for the thermostat to turn on and off. It indicates the thermostat is working and your soleplate is being maintained at the desired temperature. If the auto-off light blinks, you must disengage the auto-off function. This is done by gently shaking the iron which will allow the iron to reheat.

Why did my iron smoke on first use?

When heating your iron for the first time, you may notice a small amount of odour and smoke, this is simply the engineering residues from the manufacturing process burning off. These are harmless and will quickly disappear.

Some waterdrops drip out onto the floor during ironing.

It is normal. Your iron generates a lot of steam; this steam is condensing on the board. Some waterdrops could appeared underneath the ironing board and fall on the flooring.

Water flows from the soleplate when the iron is stored or when it is cooling off.

Your iron has been stored horizontally, without draining the water tank and with the selector placed on steam position. When you store your iron horizontally, check that the tank is empty and the selector on "DRY" position.

My iron is producing no or little steam.

Check the following points:

  • The tank is empty or almost empty: add more water.
  • The selected temperature is too low and does not allow steam to be produced.
  • If your iron has a Dry/Steam control: set it to the Steam position.
  • Scale has built up in your iron: descale it.

The auto stop function has been activated.

Gently shake your iron to reactivate it, the lights should start to flash and then the iron should start to heat up.

The iron doesn’t glide very easily.

Some laundry starches and synthetic fibers may stick to the surface of the iron. Make sure to clean the iron’s soleplate with a damp cloth or sponge.

A short time after use, I can hear a metallic sound.

The internal parts may make metallic noises with the change in temperature. There is nothing wrong with it.

General

What is the anti-calc collector (depending on model)?

The anti-calc collector is a scale collector which automatically collects the scale which forms inside your iron. The amount of scale collected depends on the hardness of your water.

How does the auto stop function work (depending on model)?

The electronic system cuts off the power supply and the auto-stop light flashes if the iron is not moved for more than 8 minutes (on its rest or base) or is left flat for more than 30 seconds.

To turn the iron back on, shake it gently until the light goes out.

Stainless Steel Cookware

Cooking

Before First Use:

Be sure to wash the pan before the first use and to clean thoroughly between uses.

Browning, Sautéing, and Searing:

Start with food at room temperature. Dry food before cooking to prevent splattering. Preheat the pan on low to moderate heat before cooking. Water will dance on the pan when ready. Add enough oil to cover the pan’s surface. Add food to the pan when the oil is hot. You will see a faint vapor when the oil is ready. Food should sizzle when added to the pan. Allow the food to cook. On stainless, it will be ready to turn when it no longer sticks to the pan. After removing food from the pan, use browned food bits for the sauce by deglazing with wine or stock.

Boiling:

This is the only occasion when high heat should be used.

Cooking in the Oven:

Oven and broiler safe up to 600°F. Extended exposure to temperatures over 500°F can cause stainless steel to change color, but will not affect its performance.

Caution:

With the exception of preheating, empty pans should not be left on a hot burner as it can cause damage. Overheating can cause brown or blue stains to appear. To avoid small white dots or pits from forming in your pan, bring liquids to a boil or wait until food starts to cook before adding salt. Pitting does not interfere with cooking performance but can diminish the beauty of your pan’s interior.

Do not slide or drag cookware across the stove top, as this may cause damage to both the cookware and stove top.

Cleaning

To keep your All-Clad looking brand new, we recommend washing your cookware with soap and a sponge.

Allow the pan to cool prior to cleaning. Rinse off any excess food with warm water. Soak in warm, soapy water, then wash with a sponge or soft cloth. Use a nylon scouring pad for more difficult cleaning. Rinse with warm water and dry immediately to prevent spotting.

For tough-to-clean spots or marks, like burnt fat, protein shadows, and charred food, clean with a nonabrasive, non-chlorine cleanser, like All-Clad cookware cleaner, Bar Keeper’s Friend® or Bon Ami®. Form a paste with the cookware cleanser and a small amount of water. Apply the paste using a soft cloth or sponge, rubbing in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water and dry immediately. Repeat if needed, allowing the paste to soak on the pan before scrubbing.

Some stains and food remnants may take more care to remove.

For discoloration, like blue or rainbow coloring, wipe the pan with a sponge or soft cloth and white vinegar.

For cloudy white hard water spots, remove by boiling a 1:1 white vinegar to water solution.

For burnt food, sprinkle the surface generously with baking soda, add water and bring to a boil. Use a wooden spoon to loosen the food particles from the surface.

Caution:

Do not use oven cleaners, steel wool, steel scouring pads, harsh detergents or detergents containing bleach or peroxide, which can damage the pan. Nylon scrubbing pads can be used on stainless steel surfaces only. Never place a hot pan under cold water, as it could cause warping.

Stainless Steel Cookware with Nonstick Coating

Cooking

Before First Use:

Be sure to wash the pan before the first use and to clean thoroughly between uses.

Cooking:

Pots and pans are oven safe up to 500°F. Lids are oven safe up to 350°F. Avoid use under the broiler.

Plastic, nylon, silicone, or wooden utensils are recommended as metal utensils may scratch the nonstick surface.

Cook over low and medium heat. Never use high heat unless boiling liquids. Do not overheat empty cookware or cook fat or oil to the extent it burns and turns black. If the fat is smoking the pan is getting too hot. The use of nonstick cooking spray is also not recommended as it may reduce the performance of the nonstick surface over time.

Low heat is ideal for delicate foods like eggs or fish. Medium heat is ideal for cooking methods like stir-frying. Use medium-low heat for other foods.

Nonstick is also great for reheating meals right on the stovetop. Preheat the pan on medium-low heat then add leftovers to be reheated, keeping the lid on or off. Reheating in a nonstick pan can restore crisp textures to roasted, stir-fried, and breaded foods without adding any additional fat.

Caution:

Do not slide or drag cookware across the stove top, as this may cause damage to both the cookware and stove top.

Cleaning

Cleaning Tips:

Let the pan cool completely before washing to avoid thermal shock. Hand wash pans in warm soapy water. We recommend using nylon scrubbing pads or a soft sponge and advise against oven cleaners, steel wool, steel scouring pads, harsh detergents, or detergents containing chlorine or peroxide bleach which can damage the pan’s surface and exterior.

If severe amounts of burned grease or food residue collect and become too difficult to remove through normal cleaning try bringing a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water to a boil in the pan. Then use a wooden spoon to carefully remove stuck-on bits.

Hard Anodized Nonstick Cookware

Cooking

Before First Use:

Wash your new pan with warm soapy water. Rinse with hot water and dry thoroughly.

Caution:

Do not slide or drag cookware across the stove top, as this may cause damage to both the cookware and stove top.

Cleaning

Cleaning Tips:

Although dishwasher safe, we recommend washing by hand to keep the pan looking shiny and new.

Cleaning the Hard Anodized Exterior:

Our hard anodized cookware is scratch, stain, and abrasion resistant. To prolong the life and appearance of your pan we recommend to handwash with warm soapy water. Rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly. We do not recommend using steel wool, steel scouring pads, or harsh detergents. Nylon scrubbing pads or soft sponges are safe to use.

Cast Iron

Cooking

Before First Use:

Wash your new pan with warm soapy water. Rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly.

Cooking:

Pans are oven safe up to 650 degrees. Stainless steel lids are oven safe up to 500 degrees.

Pans are compatible with all stovetops including induction.

Cook over low and medium heat. Never use high heat unless boiling liquids. Do not overheat empty cookware or cook fat or oil to the extent it burns and turns black. Always preheat the enameled cast iron pan with oil or cooking liquid. Do not preheat empty. If the fat is smoking, the pan is getting too hot. Overheating your pan may damage its inner coating or cause damage to the base.

Plastic, nylon, silicone, or wooden utensils are recommended as metal utensils may scratch the enamel coating.

The cast iron handles will become hot during use. The use of oven mitts is recommended when handling the pans during cooking.

Cooking on Induction:

Heat the cookware at low power and gradually increase the power. This will prevent damage to the pan from thermal shock. Always preheat the enameled cast iron pan with oil or cooking liquid. Do not preheat empty. To ensure maximum energy efficiency and stability make sure the cookware is positioned in the center of the hob with the right diameter.

Cleaning

Let pan cool completely before washing to avoid thermal shock. Hand wash pans in warm soapy water. We recommend using nylon scrubbing pads or a soft sponge and advise against oven cleaners, steel wool, steel scouring pads, harsh detergents or detergents containing chlorine bleach which can damage the pan’s surface and exterior.

If severe amounts of burned grease or food residue collect on the pan and become too difficult to remove through normal cleaning cover the residue with a combination of warm water and baking soda. Let this mixture soak for a few minutes and remove the residue with a soft sponge.

Thoroughly dry the pan with a towel after washing to avoid any rust on the rim of the pan.

This pan should not be cleaned in the dishwasher.

Storing

Rust can appear on your cast iron cookware; this is due to the permanent contact of water with the edges of the lid and body. It is recommended that you dry your pan and lid with a towel after washing.

When storing make sure the plastic separators are in place that come with the product to ensure the lid and body are separated during storage and allow air flow. This will help ensure no water is caught between the lid and body of the pan.

If rust does appear the best solution is to gently rub the rusted area with a soft scouring pad and afterwards apply a few drops of vegetable oil and let dry. This should prevent the reappearance of rust.

Forged Knives

Cleaning

Cleaning Tips:

Immediately after use, hand wash in warm, soapy water with a non-abrasive sponge to remove all food particles.

Thoroughly towel dry to avoid corrosion or discoloring.

Finally, securely store your clean knife in a wooden storage block or with a knife sleeve in a drawer to protect the blades and help maintain sharpness.

Copper

Cleaning

Cleaning Tips:

Copper will patina over time & when cooking but this does not affect its performance. Using a cream copper cleaner, like the one included with your C2™ Copper pan, is the best way to restore your pan's original copper shine. Apply cleaner to the pan as directed by the product's label, then rinse with warm water, drying immediately after.

Caution:

Do not slide or drag cookware across the stove top, as this may cause damage to both the cookware and stove top.

Wood Tools & Trivets

Cooking

Tools - Before First Use:

Wash your new wooden tool with warm soapy water. Rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly.

Trivet - Use:

Place the trivet on a sturdy surface and place the hot dish on top of the trivet. Always make sure you handle hot vessels with oven mitts or potholders to prevent burns. The trivet is for protecting surfaces such as counters and tabletops from heat damage. Make sure the trivet is the appropriate size for the vessel it is being used with. The bottom of the vessel should be completely supported by the trivet and not larger which would make the vessel unstable.

The trivet should not be used as a cutting board. Due to the wood being a natural material it will have color variation.

Cleaning

Tools - Cleaning Tips:

Hand wash wooden tools in warm soapy water. Dry thoroughly after washing. We recommend using nylon scrubbing pads or a soft sponge and advise against oven cleaners, steel wool, steel scouring pads and harsh detergents.

Tools should not be put in the dishwasher or soak in water for prolonged periods of time. If tools are kept in water too long this will cause the wood to dry and crack.

Periodically apply food-safe mineral oil to the surface of your wooden tools to prevent drying and cracking. Mineral oil will also preserve the wood. Mineral oil should only be used on cooking tools and not the trivet. Due to the wood being a natural material it will have color variation.

Trivet - Cleaning Tips:

Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Do not use mineral oil on the trivet.
